What You Need to Know About Far Infrared Rays

When we think of the sun, we think of the light that it provides. Without this massive star at the center of our solar system, life on Earth would not exist.

However, the sun actually provides more than just light. As you might remember from high school science class, light is a form of electromagnetic energy, and it travels in waves. But there are other forms of electromagnetic energy, beyond that which our eyes can detect. Aside from light, the sun also emits ultraviolet (UV) waves, radio waves, X-rays, gamma rays, and infrared rays. These waves of energy are defined by their wavelengths, and although they cannot be seen, they are all around us… And as it turns out, they affect us.

The best example of these effects is the common sunburn. We know that if we’re exposed to too much ultraviolet light, we might not feel anything, but we definitely notice a sunburn later! We also know that repeated sunburns are linked to skin cancer; this is proof that just because you can’t see something, that doesn’t mean it can’t affect you.

Over recent years we’ve made quite a few discoveries on far infrared rays, or thermal radiation. These waves occupy a different part of the electromagnetic spectrum, close to light, but not visible. Although invisible, these waves do penetrate our cells and can cause some biological changes. The heat receptors in our cells receive infrared radiation, and send a signal to the brain which then interprets the energy as warmth. This might explain why, for thousands of years, humans have acknowledged the healing properties of heat without fully understanding how or why it works.

Numerous studies have linked far infrared therapy to positive health outcomes, such as:

  • Improvement of arthritic symptoms
  • A gentle increase in blood flow; detoxification
  • Boosting of the immune system
  • Boosting metabolism
  • Healing scars from acne, burns, and more
  • Mitigating some ischemic damage
  • Suppression of skin aging
  • … and much more

As research into this fascinating and promising area of study continues, we feel certain that there is much more to learn about the positive benefits of far infrared rays. Scientists continue to investigate the potential benefits for those with diabetes, damaged lymph nodes, and many other conditions, along with the possibility for reversing aging.

GIA Wellness has recently harnessed the power of Far Infrared in new join support wraps called Smart Sleeves.  Far Infrared fiber combined with GIA’s proprietary blend of energetic properties (ERT) are already making a positive impact for people suffering from stress and stains in their wrists, elbows, ankles and knees.  Reach out and we’ll send you more detailed information about Smart Sleeves.
